What is the best anti-aging product?
We have a huge secret to share with you. There is one product out there that is the best anti-aging product in the world. Want to take a guess?
It’s SPF!
Who knew something so simple could make such a difference?
If you were to buy only one product for the rest of your life, sun protection is the way to go. SPF protects your skin from exposure to UV radiation that can cause sunspots, wrinkles, and sun damage.
Trust us–prevention is going to save you so much time, energy, and money.
Think of sunscreen like a 401k for your skin–if you invest in your skin now, no matter how old you are, it’s only going to pay off in the future.
Even if you’ve already got some damaged skin, SPF can help prevent further damage to keep your skin healthy and looking its best. You can learn more about skincare and anti-aging treatments in the free Bustmob Academy app.
You only need SPF when you’re outside, right?
Wrong! Regardless of whether you work in an office all day or are a full-time lifeguard, SPF should be worn all day, every day, head to toe. Yep, your body needs sunscreen too.
Even indoors or when it’s cloudy with low visible light, UVA and UVB radiation reach the earth and make their way through the windows of your home, office, and car. Even that amount of sun exposure can cause sun damage, dark spots (also known as hyperpigmentation), and increase the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines.
Am I too old (or too young) to start?
SPF is the best anti-aging for 20s, teens, kids, 80s, and beyond.
There’s never a wrong time to start. Regardless of how old or young you are, SPF will prevent further sun damage and can slow down signs of skin aging, like fine lines and wrinkles–not to mention keep your skin healthy and sunburn-free.
How To Choose Your SPF
Not all SPFs are created equal. Make sure you’re always reaching for broad-spectrum SPF to protect against all of the UVA and UVB rays that speed up aging. If it’s broad-spectrum, it will say so on the label.
Though it may seem like bigger is better, when it comes to SPF anything above SPF 70 is pretty useless. Typically, somewhere between SPF 30 and SPF 46 is a good place to land.
You also want to keep in mind the type of SPF you’re using. There are two types of SPFs:
- Physical
- Chemical
Physical sunscreens are considered a little better for your skin but aren’t exactly sweat and water-resistant. They are fantastic options for everyday wear, under makeup, or on their own.
If you’re hitting the beach or planning to exercise outside, you’ll want a chemical SPF (check the ingredients). Though chemical sunscreens are more water resistant than their physical counterparts, you’ll still want to reapply every hour or so to ensure you’re protected.
Can you treat sun damage?
So maybe you are a sun bunny who’s seen their fair share of tanning beds and has some damaged skin to show for it. Hey, it happens! The good news is there are some non-surgical treatments that can help.
Medspa and plastic surgeons’ offices will often offer laser treatments by a licensed aesthetician that can help reduce or eliminate age spots and sun damage.
Some skin types are more prone to hyperpigmentation and may need multiple laser treatments throughout their life to maintain the results long term.
Medical-grade skincare can also help prevent and combat sun damage and hyperpigmentation to keep your skin bright with an even complexion.
