What is a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover is just a catchy way to describe breast and body surgery done at the same time. Because you can pick and choose your procedures, everyone’s mommy makeover is a little different.
A bit of a choose-your-own-adventure, you can customize your mommy makeover based on your goals and anatomy. For you, that may be a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and liposuction, while another woman’s mommy makeover may be a lift with breast implants and a tummy tuck.
The procedures you choose for your mommy makeover will determine the costs and recovery.
Because there are hundreds of mommy makeover combinations, we recommend you identify what procedures you’re interested in and research each of those in the free Bustmob Academy app to get a detailed picture of your specific mommy makeover.
What all is included in a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover is typically a mix and match of breast surgery and body procedures, so what’s included will depend on your plastic surgeon, your goals, and your anatomy.
Some common mommy makeover procedures we see in the Bustmob Community, a supportive group for women undergoing cosmetic surgery, are the following:
- Breast augmentation
- Breast lift
- Breast reduction
- Tummy tuck
- Liposuction
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to add shape and volume to your breasts, typically using a saline or silicone breast implant.
Breast lifts address breast shape and areola placement and breast reductions remove excess skin and breast tissue.
Common body procedures include liposuction, a procedure to permanently remove fat and create body contour, and a tummy tuck, which repairs diastasis recti and removes excess skin.
Diet and exercise alone can’t treat diastasis recti–that’s where the tummy tuck comes in to get those abdominal muscles back to their pre-pregnancy or original position.
It’s important to remember that although a tummy tuck can in some cases treat stretch marks, it is not a weight loss tool. Tummy tucks remove excess skin and correct diastasis recti, or abdominal muscle separation, that is caused by pregnancy, major weight gain, and aging.
You can learn more about each of these procedures in the free Bustmob Academy app.
Depending on your anatomy and goals, your plastic surgeon can guide you through what procedures will be best for you.
Is a mommy makeover just for moms?
Despite what the name suggests, a mommy makeover has absolutely nothing to do with motherhood.
Depending on the procedures you choose, mommy makeovers can address breast volume and shape, loose, excess skin, and can even spot-treat stubborn fat.
Because combining procedures save both time and money, lots of women, not just moms, choose to have a mommy makeover.
Search the Bustmob GoalFinder to see thousands of mommy makeover pictures from real women. You can even filter by patient stats and procedure to get an idea of what different mommy makeover combinations look like on a frame similar to yours.
Should you be at your goal weight before your mommy makeover?
Although most board-certified plastic surgeons will have a BMI requirement, you do not need to be at your exact goal weight to have a mommy makeover. Of course, diet and exercise are encouraged for overall health.
Often it’s recommended that you be within 20 pounds of your goal weight before your procedure. Keep in mind, typically the closer to your goal weight you are before surgery, the happier you are likely to be with your results.
How much is a mommy makeover?
As we’ve mentioned, every mommy makeover is unique. How much your mommy makeover cost depends on the procedures you choose, your plastic surgeon, and your location.
But expect to pay between $17,000 and $24,000.
Amelia Aesthetics offers a free online mommy makeover calculator. Their transparent pricing includes everything from doctor’s visits and garments to anesthesia so you know exactly what to expect without booking a consultation.
Combination procedures have more than one perk.
Mommy makeover surgery means one anesthesia sleep and one recovery. Saving both time and money, you can get back to your life faster. Mom or not, interrupting your routine every few months over the course of a year and a half is exhausting.
If that wasn’t reassuring enough, a lot of plastic surgeons will offer a multiple procedure discount so be sure to ask your patient care coordinator about it. The discount can be upwards of 20% depending on your surgeon.
Like any medical procedure, discussing your unique risk, benefits, and goals is important based on your anatomy and medical history. Doing the research ahead of time will give you the tools and knowledge to be empowered, to ask informed questions, and leave your consultation ready to make the best decision for you.
